Saint Andrews Refugee Services Supporting displaced communities in Cairo
Saint Andrew’s Refugee Services (StARS) StARS is a refugee service provider based in Cairo, Egypt, that supports displaced people from across the region—including Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iraq, Somalia, South Sudan, Syria, and Yemen.
Founded in 1979, it was one of the first organizations in Egypt dedicated to improving the quality of life for refugees and vulnerable migrants.
StARS is especially meaningful to us, as Harrison worked at StARS in 2021 as a Refugee Status Determination Legal Advisor. He witnessed firsthand the extraordinary impact of their work and the resilience of the communities they serve.
Today, StARS provides assistance to thousands of refugees each year in five programmatic areas:
- Education for children and adults
- Legal aid focused on refugee status determination, resettlement, and protection
- Psychosocial support, including mental health care, housing, and emergency services
- Community outreach, partnering with refugee-led organizations and building their capacity
- Unaccompanied Children and Youth, offering protection, care, and support to children and young people who arrive in Cairo alone, without family or guardians
What your gift can do:
- 50 USD provides 12 hours of professional interpretation for clients in our legal aid programs
- 100 USD provides a healthy lunch for 220 school children
- 500 USD provides two months of psychosocial support to refugee communities through one of our caseworkers.
